It was after the INF’s workshop today (23/02/2026) that I was inspired to write this article to show the big picture of a Pythagorean Numerology Chart, with added intuitive and experiential information that I have added. My agenda for this article is to share ideas with other Pythagorean numerologists and inform those who do other Numerology systems about how the Pythagorean system works. I hope to inspire those that study Chaldean or Kabbalistic Numerology to write similar articles to show their big picture! Not only will this help us understand each other, but this will inspire other forms of discussion at the next workshop. A quick rundown of the meanings for me:
| Chart Element | Meaning (as I use it) |
|---|---|
| Life Path Number | Life Purpose, and most important learning challenges for this incarnation. |
| Birthday/Psychic Number | The energy of a client’s life experiences that act as major sub-lessons to support and inform the Life Path. |
| Achievement Number | Experience and learning of your first pinnacle of life, also forming part of the long-term cycle of a client’s life. |
| Expression (destiny) Number | From the Birthname, most important talent that is always there. |
| Soul Urge (heart’s desire) Number | From the VOWELS of the Birthname, showing your motivation, desire, passion and agenda! What you want in life! When looking at a client’s toolbox, I see this as the most important place to start, as we should all follow and decide based on our hearts, passions and interests in life. It keeps our vibration high! |
| Personality Number | Consonants of a person’s full birth name, showing a client’s social mask, how they come across to others. This energy decides how others treat you and the opportunities they offer you to help or hinder your life path! This energy may or may not be the real you! |
| Maturity Number | The Maturity number comes to full strength at the end of your first youth cycle and pinnacle number and is the only number that links the Date of Birth with a client’s birthname. This number is a developing talent from the use of life path challenges with innate influential talent. |
| Intensifiers, Karmic Numbers and Temperament | Intensifiers, karmic numbers and the temperament are calculated from a breakdown of the letters in a client’s full birth name. Intensifiers and karmic numbers are talents and weaknesses carried over from previous incarnations, and the Temperament is how a client runs their everyday life. |
The ‘Psychic Number’ Discussion
I was particularly struck by the differences in understanding and wisdom regarding the ‘Psychic Number’. The differences in name (Birthday or Psychic Number) are just semantics, but the meaning we attach to this number needs to be discussed. In my work, a person’s Birthday (Psychic) number is not an ability or characteristic that a person already possesses; it’s the energy of learning and experience that supports the Life Path Number as a major sub-lesson. This is based on the fact that the Birthday Number is also a person’s experiential ‘Long Term Maturity Cycle energy number’ and forms an integral part of the first three of four Pinnacles and Challenges. (The Life Path Number encompasses all of the cycles, pinnacles and challenges, which is why it’s most important).
As the long-term cycles, pinnacles, challenges and personal years are our experiences and learning in all areas of our lives, I personally attribute the Birthday (Psychic) Number as supporting the progression and achievement of life path challenges for our personal evolution. I’d love to hear or read other perspectives on this.
My research informs me that the ‘psychic number’ originates from Vedic Numerology (also known as Indian Numerology or Hindu Numerology), which is where the difference and confusion could come from. I have seen the definition of the Psychic Number described by others as “your basic character, innate talents, and daily behavioural patterns”. I find this definition a huge clash in the way I do Numerology, as this number is experience, learning and challenge like the Life Path. These numbers work together, with the Life Path at 90% importance and the birthday (psychic) number at 10% importance, to achieve. I would love to read another perspective on this and understand whether culture plays the biggest part of the difference or whether it’s related to an alternative big picture of a different type of numerology.
Birthname vs. Used Names
A bone of particular contention was whether a person’s birthname is more important or the names they use… Well, I’ll start by saying that, in my reality, a person’s birthname or birth song is their most influential and fixed talent number! It contains the vibration of a soul’s innate, unchanging talent and is used for all other numbers in a person’s ‘Toolbox’.
The names we use daily are transient energies that only come into play when they are used and are significantly less influential than the birthname. A person’s first name is their Focus Number or Growth Number; all other name changes and nicknames are transient Focus numbers that add to the Expression Number, both helping or tempering the main talent expression energy. In other words, a person’s birth name is their talent lasagne, and the Focus and Growth numbers are the herbs and spices you add or don’t add to the talent meal! I would love to hear other perspectives on this and hope for mutual understanding between all Numerology types!
A Call for Shared Big Picture Perspectives
I have no doubt that there are many more differences between the types that I haven’t discussed in this article. So, I’m calling all numerologists of different forms of Numerology, and also those that do Pythagorean that have a different perspective, to share your big picture with your Numerology studies. Let’s understand each other!
